Down the Writing Holey-O, I Go

Something quick in light of New Years 2021 Goals: Now, just after just dropping a bunch of blogs that I’m following, because they don’t interact with me ( I’m completely good with that ), I found my place in the blog-o-sphere, gladly. If you see that I dropped you and feel indifferent about it, just let me know, and we’ll talk about it.

Orthodoxy has rarely ever been my playground.

This past month I made a party out of going here, there, and everywhere, just to have a good time, to socialize and get to know all of you. But, now:

So, a focus of attention is in order for me. Current themes and memes for posting won’t change in light of what I’m saying in this post. Soon, we’ll have the continuation of LJ and Rom, book #2 web serial.

Speaking of, I would love to hear what you think about it before I get much deeper into it! If not, that’s completely fine, then at least a sending of good vibes, prayers or positive energy ( which ever you prefer ) toward me writing a piece that a bunch of people would want to enjoy, would be awesome sauce’em.

Thank you, much. 🙃

Sorry I haven’t been following your web serial. It just feels like a big commitment that I’m not sure I can keep up. But I do like to pop in once in a while & see what you are up to.

That’s okay! Ha, ha. I want to expect the least and hope for the best, Ms. Mugrage. I do appreciate the explanation, because you definitely don’t even owe me that! 🤠

So, another experiment here. I’ve been poking around under the hood at WP and found a bunch of options for the people I follow that I wasn’t previously aware of. One of those is to have all comments emailed to me (without having to click the “notify me of new comments” here). So I’ve changed that setting and will see what happens.

You have to realize, if people were tied into the WP ecosystem, as far as they were concerned, you weren’t interacting with them. They had no way to get notifications, no way to see your new posts (I still don’t see YOUR posts even though I see every other self-hosted person I follow) and no notifications. Your comment section was a blackhole and was invisible from the Reader (ie, wp reader) perspective. That is the price one pays for going selfhosted.

Being on one of WP’s free plans means I’m essentially advertising bait for WP and just goes to show that if you aren’t paying for it, you are the product. I’ve come to terms with that. At least for now.

And apparently I hadn’t saved the setting from my previous comment. I just double checked and it is saved now, so hopefully I get an email about comments here from now on.

It’s all very confusing, huh? 🤠 I was more so referring to my interaction with them outside of my own blog. As for the insight, I appreciate it, ha!

Do you mean that my posts aren’t showing up in the main feed in reader, for you? How about the comments functionality besides what you are seeing / testing now?

Gotcha. Yeah, that makes total sense. Why follow someone if they won’t reply back, on their own blog? I’ve seen a couple of bloggers like that. I obviously didn’t follow them very long either 😀

Correct. Your feeds show up, sometimes, anywhere from 6-12hrs later, IF they show up at all. When I see your posts in the reader, it does show the number of comments. And while I’m notified in the notification area that you liked a comment of mine here on your site, I don’t get any notification of your actual reply comment.

I’ll come back this evening and let you know how poking around with the comment options has turned out. I’m hoping to give you a time frame between comment and notification email. Cheerio…

I just had to reset my JetPack plugin again because the posts weren’t showing in reader. However, after the reset they are now showing.

I just put in another support request about that and also about the notifications not showing you when I reply to comments. JetPack.com support seems like they are on top of things when I request help. Let’s hope they can stabilize the connection so it keeps not dropping out of sync or whatever is happening.

Yeesh! Another thing I am going to look into is how and if they can provide some sort of seemless transition over to WordPress.com. 6 months is a long time to deal with these types of problems. 🤦‍♂️

And I got an email about this comment. the timestamp shows the email as having been sent at 4:30pm yesterday, but I didn’t see it on my phone until this morning. Goodness, I love technology.

Mr. Bookstooge – Top ‘o the morning to ya! That’s good news. I know, ha ha. Hopefully the day will go with out too much “ghost in the machine”. 🤠

And I think WP was just a bit rusty and that first comment email kicked things loose. I got home this evening and had a bunch of emails throughout the day from your site. I’d say it’s working!
