Friday Fun Trifecta #5 / Xbox Series X Woes

If you remember a while back, we did a segment here on called Friday Fun Links. It has evolved into Friday Fun Trifecta, where I will feature one thing of each – music, book and visual arts. Welcome to Friday Fun Trifecta #5, in appreciation for artwork.

I really liked this book titled Showdown by Ted Dekker, main element being the writers in the monastery in relations to the town below.

“Live to discover, as long as discovery leads to a love that comes from the Creator… writing was the mirror to life.” ― Ted Dekker, Showdown

We gratefully scored an Xbox Series X for Christmas. I opted to play Borderlands 3 ( Series X enhanced, where the game takes full capabilities of the new system. A lot of the other games do not, although they will play on the Series X ) last night. Instead of normal gameplay, I fell into Willy Wonka’s psychedelic sink after fast traveling from the Sanctuary home base ( I still managed to blow away about 15 perpetrators after the digital drugs ( a.k.a bug or corruption ) fell over the whole map ( me gunning the perps not showed in this video ). The bright colors here are some sort of texture corruption or bad bug. I’ll attempt to delete the game and reload it. I suspect something bad happened since I transferred the whole game from the old system. And, since the death of Mixer also known as Xbox’s streaming / video sharing service, the default streaming options are the absolute worst thing about the Xbox right now, aside from what happened here with the textures being all psychedelic. The game is not suppose to look like this! 😂

It seems from the reviews that it’s best to read The Circle Trilogy first, which is too much committment for me, I love the song which I hadn’t heard before and the viseo with it is amazing. The Girl with hands 9 painting is odd with the blurry bit where her arm shouldbe, but I’m on the case now looking into his work, amazing stuff, I like quirky art. Didn’t understand a word re the Xbox game but that’s fine, thanks for giving me new music and a new artist to check out!

You’re welcome, fragglerocking. That’s what this is about – spreading the love of artwork in way that it can be appreciated! Now, I need a classic rock recommendation / something to sift through for a future Friday Fun Trifecta. 🙂

If you like Showdown, I’d highly recommend Thr3e and then Blink (just be aware that he re-released it as Blink of an Eye and toned down Christianity and didn’t tell the truth about Islam like he originally did). After he co-wrote House with Peretti, it seems like he lost his theological wheels and went more for the ya thriller crowd.

I have to admit, I didn’t understand your paragraph about the Xbox. I’m guessing context was king 🙂

Good to know about that release. I have a copy of Skin that I haven’t touched.

Regarding the Xbox section, I have updated that for clarity. It’s a major bug with the Borderlands 3 game and the new system. 😉

I found Skin to be on the cusp of where I stopped enjoying his stuff. It’s an interesting story, but it is painful watching Dekker go through the contortions to MAKE the story fit into his Books of History schtick…
